Jodi McDougall is the Managing Partner of the firm’s Seattle office. She is a Member of the Global Insurance Group, where her practice focuses on complex coverage litigation. She has extensive experience in insurance coverage, maritime law and professional liability.
Jodi has spent her entire legal career working for the London insurance market and has more recently begun doing work on behalf of domestic insurers. She has successfully litigated hundreds of cases, including two of the largest coverage cases in Washington State history:
- Zurich Specialties London, Ltd, et al. v. State of Washington - Obtained summary judgment dismissal of State's $17.9 million claim against its London market insurers. Successfully argued the State breached the appeals clause in its policy by representing to its insurers it would file an appeal and then failing to do so.
- Olympic Pipeline Company v. Zurich Specialties London, Ltd., et al - Obtained summary judgment dismissal of OPL's $200 million plus claim against various London market insurers. Successfully argued the insured was not entitled to coverage under policies issued to GATX.
She received her bachelor of arts,
magna cum laude, from the University of Southern California, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her law degree,
cum laude, from Seattle University. She studied the Law of the Sea and International Law at Cambridge University in England. During and after law school, Jodi served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for both King and Pierce Counties.
Jodi chairs the firm's annual Marine and Energy Seminar. She is a frequent lecturer on claims, coverage issues and other insurance matters, both domestically and abroad. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Maritime Law Association, Professional Liability Underwriting Society, and Maritime Insurance Association of Seattle.
Jodi has been selected by her peers as a "Super Lawyer" in
Washington Law & Politics numerous times.
