Jennifer Brandt, a member in the firm’s Family Law Practice group, was on to KYW Newsradio 1060 this morning with a warning for those who post every detail of their lives on Facebook. Jennifer spoke with KYW’s Michelle Durham about the ways social media can come back to haunt you in a divorce proceeding. Jennifer gave the example of a Cleveland-area woman who discovered pictures of her husband with another woman on a profile page and even worse, discovered they were engaged!
“Just about every case that comes into the office has some Internet component, whether it be Facebook or e-mails or text messages that people leave around. This is a constant in divorce cases today,” said Jennifer. She also added that, “(i)t can put somebody in a very uncomfortable position. People think that cheating or finding out your spouse is cheating will impact the economic aspect of the divorce and it doesn’t. But, where it can impact is a custody matter and who is the better parent to be with the children on a primary basis.”
