Jesse Ryan Loffler Honored with the Gates Award for Pro Bono Efforts

Thursday, April 12, 2018

NEW YORK, April 12, 2018 – Jesse Ryan Loffler, an associate in Cozen O’Connor’s Commercial Litigation Department, was honored by the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law student group OUTLaw with the Gates Award. The honor celebrates the memory of Cardozo’s Law School professor, E. Nathaniel Gates, who served as a member of the law school’s faculty, was an avid scholar of constitutional and American legal history, and was equally dedicated to the ideals of equality and social justice.

Loffler, a Cardozo alumnus, was honored for embodying the spirit of the Gates Award in his active pro bono practice that includes matters relating to LBGTQ and political asylum, voting rights, women’s access to health care, and transgender rights, as well as his volunteer work with at-risk and homeless youth.

OUTLaw is Cardozo's longest-standing LGBTQ and allied student group. The group organizes meetings, educational panels, and social events for students to meet, socialize, and advance LGBTQ rights issues. One of the most prominent events is an annual reception in which the group presents the E. Nathaniel Gates Award to notable Cardozo LGBTQ alumni. Past recipients include a Tony Award winner, two lawyers at the forefront of LGBTQ immigration rights, and the HIV positive attorney and his counsel chronicled by the movie Philadelphia.

Loffler focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation including matters relating to securities law, shareholder litigation, contract, governmental investigations, insurance, real estate, bankruptcy and employment disputes. Loffler earned his undergraduate degree in government from Harvard University, and earned his law degree, magna cum laude, from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he was head editor of the Cardozo Law Review and member of Order of the Coif.
