Don Kassilke of the Transportation & Trade Practice Group presents at the Dangerous Goods Advisory Council 2016 Spring Conference on "SOLAS Verified Gross Mass Best Practices." Changes to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) go into effect July 1, 2016. The changes will require shippers to provide the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of containers carrying cargo before those containers can be loaded aboard a vessel. Without a VGM, the amendments also prohibit the vessel operator from loading a packed container

The Dangerous Goods Advisory Council, which was incorporated in 1978, is an international, non-profit, educational organization dedicated to the promotion of the safe transportation of hazardous materials/dangerous goods.
DGAC and its staff accomplish this goal by providing education, assistance, and information to the private and public sectors through our unique status with regulatory bodies and through the diversity and technical strengths of our membership. We are an international, educational, nonprofit membership organization representing shippers of varying sizes, carriers of all modes, container manufacturers and reconditioners, as well as emergency response and waste clean-up companies. Committee and Board Meetings are open to employees of all member companies.
