Miami, September 23, 2014 — Continuing its strategic growth in South Florida, Cozen O’Connor is pleased to announce the arrival of commercial litigator Jeffrey Gilbert as a member in the firm’s Miami office. Most recently a shareholder with Greenberg Traurig, Gilbert is an accomplished and experienced real estate, business and trusts and estates litigator.
“Jeff is an exceptional trial attorney who has helped numerous lenders and developers and those involved in complex commercial foreclosures with multimillion-dollar lawsuits,” said Jeffrey G. Weil, co-chair of the firm’s Litigation Section and chair of the Commercial Litigation Department.
Gilbert will team with Rick Dunn as cornerstones of the firm’s South Florida commercial litigation practice. Dunn is a nationally recognized aviation and commercial litigation attorney who opened the firm’s Miami office in 2006. “With Jeff and Rick spearheading our litigation practice in South Florida, we will further the firm’s tradition of trial excellence. This is a firm that tries cases, and our South Florida lawyers are some of the best at that,” observed Weil.
Since opening its Miami office, Cozen O’Connor has been dedicated to serving the South Florida market and to pursuing a strategic plan for growth. In 2013, the firm opened an office in West Palm Beach with a team of partners from Edwards Wildman.
“The addition of a highly accomplished attorney of Jeff’s caliber to our firm and the Miami office reflects our commitment to expanding its South Florida presence,” said Marty Schrier, managing partner of Cozen O’Connor’s Miami office. “Adding Jeff to our team is also evidence of our commitment to offering top legal talent and expertise to our clients here in South Florida and across the firm.”
Gilbert focuses his practice on commercial litigation. He works with lenders and developers in all aspects of their businesses, including handling complex commercial foreclosures and the defense of construction, usury and lender liability claims.
Gilbert also works with high net worth individuals and families on all matters related to their business interests, including contract disputes, and trusts and estates litigation.
Gilbert represents a variety of clients involved in land use and zoning disputes, and he handles mediations and arbitrations, both locally and internationally. He also represents electronics and telephone/wireless clients.
Gilbert spent 26 years of his 30-year career practicing at Greenberg Traurig. He is the third commercial litigator from Greenberg Traurig to join Cozen O'Connor recently. Matthew S. Steinberg and Amy B. Alderfer, both resident in the firm’s Los Angeles office, also had practiced at Greenberg.
Gilbert received his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law, where he was an associate editor of the University of Miami Law Review, and his B.A. from Northwestern University, where he served as the editorial page editor of The Daily Northwestern.
