Megan Scheib, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s White Collar Defense & Investigations practice group, discusses the recent arrest of Chef Alex Capasso on Philly.com. Capasso is accused of responding in early July to a posting on an Internet site where he tried to trade videos and photos of underage girls. Since this type of offensive case can lead to a prejudiced jury, Megan feels that a plea bargain is the most likely outcome. “The risk of a guilty verdict at trial is often too great,” says Megan, “so many defendants ultimately choose to negotiate a plea agreement with the prosecution to receive credit for acceptance of responsibility at sentencing.”
