Stephen Bowers, a member of Cozen O'Connor's Employee Benefits Practice, discusses the IRS's unexpected 30-day extension for employers to complete the ACA information-reporting requirements. Stephen explains that, "Employers normally have until January 31 to distribute Form 1095, which dictates eligibility for subsidies under ACA to their employers." As a result of the extension, employers will have until March 2, 2017, to complete their reporting obligations. Stephen notes that, "The IRS is just acknowledging that this is lengthy administrative process." The deadline extension may also provide some "peace of mind" for employers and advisers speculating about the future of the ACA in light of president-elect Trump's victory.
