Evan Berquist of the Corporate Law Practice Group was profiled by DoingBusinessInCuba.news for his niche Latin American practice. Evan has consulted companies on doing business in Latin America for almost 15 years, and the recent developments in Cuba bring even a bigger draw. Since Cuba was cut off for over 50 years, it is a huge attraction for businesses to expand.
“I had a high school Spanish teacher who was a Cuban refugee, and he got me interested in Cuba from his stories,” Berquist said during the DoingBusinessInCuba.news interview. “In 2002, I remember thinking I’d like to try making a career out of doing Cuban and Latin American advising. I wasn’t sure what that would look like, but I’ve been on that path for about 14 years.” As an undergrad, he spent a semester at the University of Havana. After law school, by then fluent in Spanish, he clerked for a federal judge in Puerto Rico.
