When asked about the tightening poll numbers between the candidates, Blake said, “We have to look at this state by state. Hillary Clinton has wide leads in Pennsylvania and Virginia; she’s ahead in Ohio and Florida. At the end of the day, those are the states that matter and are going to decide this election. Donald Trump is way behind. Blake’s second segment evaluated Donald Trump’s recent ad buys focusing on the state of the U.S. economy. Blake noted that “it is way too late for Trump to get into the paid advertising game” and that a “robust field operation,” which Trump lacks is vital to a successful strategy. When the other panelist claimed that the RNC is leading an active ground game effort, Blake disputed that this served as an adequate substitute. “Donald Trump’s campaign has had to outsource to the RNC because [his people] don’t have any idea what they are doing,” Blake contrasted this effort to Hillary Clinton’s campaign in his home state of Pennsylvania. “Having talked to her campaign and having spent time with her state director, the Clinton field operation is more sophisticated than Barack Obama’s in 2008, which was the most sophisticated operation we have ever seen.
