JB Kelly, of Cozen O’Connor’s State Attorneys General group, was featured in the American Financial Services Association’s Newsbriefs highlighting his remarks at AFSA’s first Law & Compliance Symposium about how AGs develop their investigations against companies. Kelly led a discussion on “Multistate Attorney General Enforcement.” He noted that a “negative consumer event” in several states usually gets the attention of the AG’s offices in those states, but the efforts of several state AGs in looking at certain activity that harms consumers is informal at first and involves attorneys in the AG’s office that are experts in consumer issues. Their backgrounds, he said, may have been with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau or the Federal Trade Commission.
