According to Richard, inadequate insurance and the lack of viable contractors and architects to fix damages have created “the perfect storm.” Rent is skyrocketing due to the huge demand for housing. “To those landlords that are taking advantage of the situation, know that doing so equals a necessary governmental intervention. The only mechanism that the local governments have, unfortunately, is rent control,” Richard explains.
