Richard Close, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Real Estate Practice Group, discusses the legal concerns of recreational marijuana growers due to the numbers of states legalizing the industry in Super Laywers. According to Richard, the recreational marijuana industry is projected to be a $50 billion per-year industry in 2018. As the industry expands, there will be an increased need for marijuana growers to retain lawyers to assist with unique products, resulting in a need for patents, trade secrets, and public domain protections. “Lawyers will necessarily be involved in the future of this industry. For anyone entering this market they will have issues with land use permits, labor laws, financing, banking, and intellectual property to name a few,” Richard explains.
