According to Amanda, estate planners should be vigilant, although it can be difficult to notice red flags, such as signs of isolation, limited communication, and sudden changes in documents or long-standing advisers. Another preemptive measure could come through legislation.
“Legislators are taking notice and making changes to power of attorney statutes and other related elder abuse laws in order to curb both financial and physical elder abuse,” said Amanda.
