NEW YORK — Tuesday, October 22, 2019 — Orla Thompson has been selected to join the National Black Lawyers “Top 40 Under 40” for New York. The National Black Lawyers (NBL) honors the top 40 attorneys under the age of 40 in each state who excel in their profession and promote diversity. The NBL selected Thompson after a rigorous nomination and vetting process, that includes a review of the attorney’s prior cases, verdicts, deals/transactions, and community service.
When identifying individuals, the membership committee considers reputation among peers, the judiciary and the public, achievements, settlements and verdicts as a lawyer, nominations from leading lawyers, current members and executive committee members, leadership and membership in other national and state specialty lawyer organizations, and rankings and ratings by leading national evaluation organizations. Nominees should demonstrate superior leadership, reputation, influence, stature, and profile as a black lawyer.
Thompson is an experienced litigator who focuses her practice on complex and commercial litigation matters, including toxic tort, construction, employment, federal whistleblower, business contract, and real estate claims. She has appeared as counsel in New York appellate courts, federal and state courts, and before federal administrative agencies. Thompson handles and manages her cases through all phases of litigation, including pre-claim assessment and development, pleadings, motion practice, discovery, mediation/arbitration, trials, and/or appeals.
Thompson earned her undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Tufts University, and her law degree from Boston University School of Law. While in law school, she was a summer law clerk at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, and also summered for a federal Magistrate Judge.
