A Month Later, these Unemployed Workers are still Waiting for their Money

Jennifer Taylor Williams was quoted in the South Florida Sun Sentinel discussing the impact the CARES Act has on unemployed independent contractors in Florida. It remains unclear whether the state is recognizing the portion of the act that brings independent contractors under the jobless benefit tent for the first time. The DEO website, however, has yet to be updated to reflect that change. It still says that independent contractors can’t receive jobless benefits. Jennifer agreed the language “doesn’t reflect the reality" of the federal act.” “It was specifically to expand coverage to independent contractors and self-employed folks,” she said. “There may be a delay in the website being updated,” she added.
