Thomas is a commercial and intellectual property litigator with extensive, successful first chair jury trial experience. His broad business litigation experience includes litigation related to commercial, insurance, and intellectual property disputes, including trade secrets and non-compete and non-disclosure agreements, trademarks, copyrights, and patents; unfair and deceptive trade practices; class actions; antitrust; franchise agreements; cybersecurity; product liability; tax; contract claims; and business torts.

Thomas was lead trial counsel in a series of cases in which he obtained judgments estimated to save a Fortune 500 telecom provider more than $3 billion in public service tax liability. Also representative of his work is a series of cases involving different clients, in different industries, alleging trade secret misappropriation and breach of non-compete agreements — Thomas defeated preliminary injunction motions against 10 employees and seven employees, respectively. All were subsequently employed by alleged competitors within the time period of their facially valid restrictive covenants.

Thomas has been a leader in the ABA Litigation Section where he has regularly lectured on litigation topics, served as vice-chair of the Business Torts Committee, and edited the Business Torts Journal. In addition, Thomas has lectured at the American Intellectual Property Law Association  Annual Meeting, the Florida Bar Annual Conference, the National Conference on Ethics in America, the IBM Legal Summit, and in National Institute on Trial Advocacy Programs.

Thomas has also been active in the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Trade Secrets Committee and the Florida Bar Trial Lawyers and Intellectual Property Committees. He was a member of the board of directors of the Miami-Dade County Bar Association and served on its executive committee. He currently serves as a Trustee and is a former member of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches. He is a member of the ABA Forum on Franchising. Thomas was an instructor in Trial Advocacy for a number of years at the University of Miami School of Law. While in law school he was a National Finalist in the ABA National Trial Competition.
