Wendy has more than 18 years of experience working in the insurance coverage world; with a concentration in litigating insurance matters in the oil and gas sector in Texas and Louisiana. During those years she represented domestic insurance companies, Lloyd’s Underwriting Syndicates, London Companies, offshore drilling and subsea construction companies, energy, and oil service companies. She has counseled a significant number of those clients through the claims process and obtained favorable results short of trial. She has tried many coverage disputes in first-party, multimillion dollar insurance matters, tried multimillion dollar energy subrogation matters for London insurers, and litigated other insurance claims through favorable settlement (including energy, bad faith, pollution, political risk, construction defect, product liability and professional indemnity coverages). She has prepared coverage opinions, and prepared briefing from the trial level to 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. She prides herself in assisting the client in achieving the desired result — be that counseling, litigation, favorable settlement, or trial and if necessary appeal.
Prior to joining the firm, she was a founding shareholder of Hall, Maines & Lugrin, PC, where she worked both domestically and in London for over a decade. During her time at Hall, Maines & Lugrin she was invited to be seconded to a London Syndicate directly after the 9/11 tragedy. During that London secondment, she assisted the claims group in handling incoming claims, assisted in drafting policy wordings on meaning of “occurrence,” and assisted in tailoring a policy for the upcoming world cup. She also served in the Lloyd’s Underwriters box to better understand the broker/underwriter dynamic. Before she founded Hall, Maines & Lugrin, PC, she worked in the insurance coverage and litigation group of an international law firm. There, she litigated coverage disputes in all aspects of coverage litigation and traveled to London to assist Lloyds clientele and work in the Lloyds market on coverage matters and policy wordings.
