Our friend and colleague Charles G. Kopp passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019. Charlie joined Cozen O’Connor in May 2009 from Wolf Block.  In addition to being a superb tax lawyer, Charlie was well known as a wonderful counselor, adviser and friend to so very many.  Both at Cozen O'Connor and Wolf Block, and in his capacity as a political adviser and extraordinary fundraiser, Charlie mentored scores of young lawyers and politicians.  His unusual common sense, wisdom and humor will be greatly missed.

Charles earned his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Amherst College and his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was an editor of the law review.

Charles G. Kopp is familiar with all aspects of federal, state, and local taxation. He has also developed in-depth experience in corporate acquisitions and mergers.

In addition to his other activities, Charles is a member of the board of trustees of Thomas Jefferson University, and a member of the board of the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute. He served as a member of the Region I advisory board to the Resolution Trust Corporation, the board of directors of Provident National Bank and the advisory board of PNC Philadelphia. Charles served on Pennsylvania's 51st Electoral College and was a recipient of the Pop Warner Gold Football Award. In 1980, he was appointed to Governor Dick Thornburgh's Special State Tax Commission and was appointed co-chair of the Philadelphia Tax Committee by Philadelphia Mayor William J. Green in 1982. In 1986, he was appointed as a commissioner to the Delaware River Port Authority by Governor Thornburgh. He also served on the Federal Judicial Nominating Commission for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1999-2009, having been appointed by Senator Arlen Specter. In 2011, he was appointed by Governor Tom Corbett to serve as chairman of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority.

Charles earned his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Amherst College and his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he was an editor of the law review.
