Cozen O’Connor: Legal Fee Litigation

Legal Fee Litigation

Attorney fee disputes are increasingly common and often involve a number of issues, primarily the duties of professionals, the reasonableness of underlying attorneys' fees, and the actions of underlying counsel in representing its client. Our attorneys are incredibly skilled at analyzing attorney fee disputes, attendant fee reasonableness issues, and available options that secure resolutions in our clients' favor. When defending our clients or prosecuting claims of professional malpractice, we base our strategies on the unique facts and on Model Rule 1.5 factors governing the fees and transactions inherent to client-lawyer relationships.

Proven trial lawyers who have spent years refining our abilities to litigate, we always devote due diligence and effort to our clients on a case-by-case basis. As a result, we have the ability to secure favorable resolutions in a variety of situations and legal arenas. In some cases, for instance, we may find that it may make more financial sense to resolve our clients' concerns via alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation and arbitration.

Given our extensive experience and versatile capabilities, our litigation team has garnered national recognition, and our attorneys have earned inclusion in prominent publications and resources such as the Leading Lawyers Network, Super Lawyers® Magazine, and the Best Lawyers lists. Our collective proficiency and skills also allow our lawyers to provide counsel and representation to clients facing complex matters arising out of mass tort and multi-district contractual claims, extra-contractual claims, statutory and common law claims, and other actions in which attorneys' fees present themselves as an element of damages.

Talented, accomplished, and innovative in the field of fee litigation, our legal team has provided our services for some of the largest attorney fee disputes in the United States, including a recent case in which our lawyers served as lead counsel for a pharmaceutical manufacturer disputing the allocation and reasonableness of more than $500 million in legal expenses. Well versed in this practice area, our legal team delivers a level of unsurpassed ability and works cases with the relentless intent to ensure that the interests and objectives of our clients are met.
