Matthew focuses his practice on subrogation and recovery, representing insurers against third parties in matters involving construction defect, professional liability, product liability, and general negligence claims.

Matthew began his legal career in 2008 as a subrogation associate with Cozen O’Connor, working on subrogation matters involving construction defect, fires, utility failures, product defect, and water intrusion. He also handled recovery matters involving fidelity claims and theft losses.

He also gained experience defending businesses and individuals against a wide variety of tort lawsuits with a small law firm in Tacoma, WA. Most recently, he was the managing attorney of a statewide staff counsel office for a major national insurer, where he defended individuals against tort lawsuits and performed investigations of disputed insurance claims. Matthew returned to Cozen O’Connor in 2024.

Matthew earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington, where he was a long-stick defender on the Husky Lacrosse team. He earned his law degree from Emory University School of Law, where he was assistant director of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society, a member of the Intellectual Property Society, and a moot court competitor.
