Cozen O’Connor member Sean P. Carter recently served as a featured speaker a the 67th Judicial Conference of the Third Circuit, held in Cambridge, Md. Carter’s presentation served as part of a panel discussion entitled “Pleading Standards in Civil Cases,” which addressed the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Bell Atlantic v. Twombly on pleading standards in federal courts. The conference also featured lectures on judicial independence, separation of church and state, attorney rules of practice and recent changes in the attorney-client privilege rule, sentencing updates, best practices for judges and attorneys working with electronic case files, and extended programs on federal appellate and bankruptcy practices.

Resident in Philadelphia, Carter concentrates his practice in commercial and mass tort litigation and appellate practice, with a particular focus on cases involving claims under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and Anti-Terrorism Act. Carter is a co-chair of the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in the multi-district litigation proceeding In Re: Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has been named a Pennsylvania “Rising Star” by Law & Politics.

Carter is a graduate of the College of William and Mary (B.B.A., 1993) and Villanova University School of Law (J.D., 1996), where he was a member of the Villanova Law Review.
