Cozen O’Connor members Mark L. Alderman and Suzanne S. Mayes were recently appointed to the judicial nomination advisory panel for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The panel is a bipartisan effort to review and recommend nominees for federal judgeships to Pennsylvania’s two U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey.

There are three panels established throughout the state, with 20 members and two co-chairs on each.

Appointed to the panel by Sen. Casey, Mark L. Alderman is a member in Cozen O’Connor’s business law department, practicing in the government relations group, and chairman of Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies LLC, which works with clients to advocate their interests with decision-makers in all branches of local, state, and federal government. He concentrates his practice on business matters with an emphasis on issues that involve government relations.

Alderman earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University (B.A., magna cum laude, 1975) and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania (J.D., cum laude, 1978), where he served as editor of the Law Review.

Suzanne S. Mayes was appointed to the panel by Sen. Toomey. Mayes is a member of Cozen O’Connor’s business law department and also works with Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies LLC. A co-chair of the public and project finance practice group, she focuses her practice on municipal and project finance law, including economic development, transportation, government, education and single, multifamily and senior housing. She serves as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel and borrower’s counsel for a variety of clients, and also acts as special counsel in matters involving the implementation and financing of major capital projects and debt refinancing for public, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. In addition, Mayes counsels issuers on large-scale general obligation borrowings, student loan bond financings and airport and toll road issuances.

Mayes earned her undergraduate degree from Fairfield University (B.S., summa cum laude, 1988) and her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D., magna cum laude, 1991), where she was an editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif
