In a Law Practice article entitled, “Associate Training Programs Meet Pro Bono Work,” Robert Denney discusses Cozen O’Connor’s Pro Bono Initiatives and Advanced Advocacy Programs, deeming them a “creative approach to address not only the challenge of training associates, but also the challenge of meeting the increased need for pro bono services.” The responsibility for combining professional training with pro bono services rests with Hayes Hunt, a member of the Commercial Litigation Group in Philadelphia, whose initiative has given senior partners the opportunity to supervise each associate, review their work and participate in the evaluation of the associates with whom they’ve worked. The article highlights some of the features of the program, while also noting the support it has received from the firm’s senior management. Denney concludes the article by hoping that Cozen O’Connor’s program initiates a trend, and states that, if it proves to be as successful as Hunt and senior management believe it will be, the Pro Bono Initiatives and Advanced Advocacy Programs could be, “a marriage made in heaven.”
