Cozen O’Connor Named Finalist in PA Litigation Department of the Year, Featured in The Legal Intelligencer

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Cozen O’Connor was named a finalist in The Legal Intelligencer’s Pennsylvania Litigation Departments of the Year and featured in the newspaper’s supplement, “Every Day the Courts Are Open.” The article details the firm’s handling of the case In Re the City of Harrisburg, as well as other litigation matters that led the firm to being recognized in the paper’s first ever Litigation Department of the Year awards. Neal Colton, co-chair of the firm’s bankruptcy practice, and Jeff Weil, co-chair of the litigation department, represented Pennsylvania in the bankruptcy proceeding. The argument contesting Harrisburg’s bankruptcy petition was held on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and lasted three hours, followed by an hour of waiting for the decision – which tossed out Harrisburg’s petition to liquidate the city’s debt. The ruling was upheld in appeals to both the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit.

Other victories for the firm and its clients that were highlighted in the article were Airgas Inc. v. Cravath, Swaine & Moore, in which the firm represented Airgas in its suit against its former counsel, and USA v. Sodexho, where Cozen O’Connor represented Aramark when they faced allegations of defrauding the National School Lunch Program.

The firm was recognized as a finalist in the General Litigation category.
