Peter Fontaine, co-chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Environmental Practice Group, discusses Dr. Michael Mann’s libel claims against the Competitive Enterprise Institute in Bloomberg BNA. The CEI previously accused the climate scientist of improperly manipulating data. In response, Dr. Mann asserted CEI’s statements were “libelous and intentionally inflicted emotional distress on him.” An appeals court ruled that Mann can now proceed with the defamation suit against CEI. Peter, who represents Dr. Mann, says, “The ruling clears the path for a jury of peers to decide the claims.”
