Mayor de Blasio Says Criticism of the Video His Taxpayer-Funded Team Created is ‘Ludicrous’

Friday, December 30, 2016

Ken Fisher, a member of Cozen O’Connor’s Business Law Department, discusses a taxpayer-funded video released by New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office in New York Daily News. The video, which includes TV and Broadway personalities, has gained interest because, under a city charter, elected officials are prohibited from releasing taxpayer-fund ads during an election year. De Blasio is up for reelection in 2017. According to Ken it is not uncommon for elected officials to use government resources to self-promote and he notes that politicians regularly send holiday cards on taxpayers’ money. Ken also comments that “The public gets to decide whether to hold [politicians] accountable or not during an election.”
