New Jersey Bill Would Ban Marriage Under the Age of 18

Friday, February 17, 2017

Jennifer Brandt, co-chair of Cozen O'Connor's Family Law practice, discusses New Jersey's bill to ban marriage for anyone under the age of 18 on Fox29. Currently, judges must approve marriages of children 15 and younger, while 16- and 17- year-olds may marry with parental approval. The bill passed the Assembly 64-0 and recently cleared a Senate committee. If the bill becomes law, New Jersey will be the first state to ban marriage under 18 completely.
