165,000 Philly homeowners may be paying too much in property taxes. Is the city assessing property fairly?

Joseph Bright, a member of the firm’s Tax Practice, discusses the inaccurate assessment of home values in Philadelphia an article in The Philadelphia Inquirer. Historically, homeowners have been paying too much or too little in property taxes due to inaccurate assessments. To resolve this problem, the city launched the Actual Value Initiative, which aims to keep assessments at 100% of market value.

“Generally speaking,” Joe said. “I think the city is doing a much better job of keeping up with real market value than they have in the past.”
