Cozen O’Connor Names Schmidt New York Midtown Office Managing Partner

NEW YORK, February 15, 2018 - Cozen O’Connor is pleased to announce Michael C. Schmidt has been appointed to serve as Office Managing Partner for the firm’s New York Midtown office. Schmidt will lead the office of more than 50 attorneys, which provides a full range of services including real estate, corporate, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, government relations, commercial litigation, labor and employment, and private client services.

McGuinness, Cozen O’Connor President and Managing Partner. “Cozen O’Connor’s growth in New York has been a strategic goal for us, and Mike is a natural fit to lead our New York Midtown Office and continued success in New York.”

Schmidt, the Vice Chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Department, has concentrated his practice for more than two decades on representing companies and management in all facets of employment law. A substantial portion of his practice is devoted to maintaining collaborative relationships with his clients, and developing appropriate strategies to avoid litigation and minimize potential exposure in employee relations. He has tried cases and argued appeals in federal and state courts, and has represented companies (non-union and union) in arbitration and before federal and state administrative agencies such as the EEOC, the New York State Division of Human Rights, the New York City Commission on Human Rights, the Department of Labor, OSHA, and the National Labor Relations Board.

Schmidt is the creator, producer, and host of "Employment Law Now," a fast-paced podcast providing listeners the latest trends, news, and updates in employment law topics. He is also active in pro bono representation to several organizations and individuals underserved in the New York Metro region. Schmidt earned his undergraduate degree, with honors, from Brandeis University in 1990. He earned his law degree, with distinction, from Hofstra University School of Law in 1993.
