Jennifer Brandt, co-chair of the firm's Family Law Practice, discussed how the new tax reform will impact alimony on Dr. Drew's Midday Live radio show. The new tax bill, which will only affect divorces carried out after December 31, 2018, eliminates the tax deduction for alimony payments. Jennifer also explained that alimony will no longer be taxed as regular income for the recipient. She believes this could make divorce settlements much more difficult to reach and lead some to rush to finalize their divorce, while others look to prolong the process.
