Cozen O’Connor Further Expands its Washington D.C. Real Estate Practice, Adding Transaction Attorney James Grier Hoyt

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 18, 2019 – Cozen O’Connor is pleased to announce that James Grier Hoyt, one of Washington D.C.’s leading commercial leasing attorneys, has joined its growing and nationally recognized Real Estate Practice Group. Grier joins Cozen O’Connor’s Washington, D.C., office as a member and will represent owners, developers and tenants in acquisition, development, leasing, and disposition transactions throughout the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and all along the East Coast.

Grier has closed leasing transactions on behalf of landlords and tenants in excess of 15 million square feet, including major build-to-suit and corporate headquarters deals. He is currently handling the leasing at Capitol Crossing, a high-profile three-block trophy project in downtown Washington, D.C.

“Washington D.C. is one of the most vibrant commercial real estate markets in the country and adding a transaction attorney of Grier’s caliber is a major addition for Cozen O’Connor,” says James R. Williams, co-chair of the firm’s Real Estate Group. “With his extensive experience in commercial real estate, Grier adds significantly to our ability to handle complex development and leasing transactions throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.”

Martindale-Hubbell AV Rated — the highest possible rating for both legal ability and ethical standards — Grier has worked with many well-known corporate brands, including Kaiser Permanente, Property Group Partners, Beacon Capital Partners, Suntrust Bank, Panera Bread, FedEx Kinko's, Bank of America, and Union Square Hospitality Group.

He is the second prominent transactional attorney to join Cozen O’Connor’s Washington D.C. real estate practice this year — finance attorney Alex DuFour, who has represented lenders, investors and developers in funding some of the highest profile building projects in Maryland, Washington D.C. and Virginia, joined the firm in March.

“I am very impressed with the quality and professionalism of Cozen O’Connor’s attorneys, as well as the firm’s approach to the business of practicing law and the warm and welcoming atmosphere,” Grier says.  “With Cozen O’Connor I’ll be able to provide my real estate clients with a full range of commercial legal services in key metropolitan markets.”

A member of both the ABA’s Leasing Committee and the District of Columbia Building Industry Association, Grier earned his J.D. at Duke University School of Law and his B.A. at University of Georgia.
