Las Vegas Is in the Lead in the NBA’s Expansion Race

Josh Goldenberg is quoted in a Last Word on Sports article examining Las Vegas and Seattle as leading contenders for NBA expansion. With expansion fees expected to range from $7 billion to $10 billion, the league is evaluating ownership groups in both markets. In Seattle, while Samantha Holloway, owner of the NHL’s Seattle Kraken, has publicly expressed interest in an NBA franchise, other prospective ownership groups have largely remained out of the spotlight.

“I think there are probably a lot of folks who aren’t household names, necessarily,” said Josh. “Any ownership group in Seattle is likely to include a lot of people; it’s likely to be a fairly large group of owners to be able to pay that fee. There could be some big names or public figures involved in a group. But that doesn’t mean that those public figures are the ones who will have a significant ownership stake; they could be strategic investors.”
