Donald Trump’s Incoherent Positions are Part of His Master Plan [Fortune]

Mark Alderman, chairman of Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies, and Howard Schweitzer, managing partner of Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies, wrote an OpEd in Fortune titled “Donald Trump’s Incoherent Positions are Part of His Master Plan.” In the article, they discuss Trump’s self-proclaimed preference for unpredictability as strategy, and the effect such a philosophy could have in governance. As Mark and Howard note, “There’s a profound difference between unpredictability as a tactic, and unpredictability as a philosophy of governance and leadership.” Mark and Howard explain that plenty of politicians moderate their positions as a primary election becomes general and Trump may be doing exactly that, “but with his expressed preference for being unpredictable in his policymaking, it’s simply impossible to tell for sure. And as a result, it will be harder for a Trump administration to build a governing coalition, since his own party will have every reason not to trust its own standard bearer will stick with the positions he’s championed.” Mark and Howard conclude by suggesting that stability, not unpredictability, is the type of leadership necessary for a leader.
