Maintaining: Public Works in the Next New York

Ken Fisher co-authored a chapter titled, “Turn Development Rights into Landmarks Revenue” in Maintaining: Public Works in the Next New York, published by the Urban Design Forum. Ken’s chapter suggests that religious and other nonprofit owners of individual landmarks should be able to sell the their excess development rights into areas of the city where demand is high in order to cover the cost of the maintenance of these buildings. The book is the culmination of a year-long series led by the Urban Design Forum that invited civic leaders to propose novel approaches to address the city’s maintenance crisis.
