Zak focuses his practice on zoning, land use, and development matters in Washington, DC, where he helps clients navigate the entitlement process and secure project approvals. He frequently drafts entitlement applications and supports appearances before the D.C. Board of Zoning Adjustment, Zoning Commission, Historic Preservation Review Board, Advisory Neighborhood Commissions, and D.C. Council.
Zak also maintains an active litigation practice. He handles a wide range of commercial and real estate litigation matters in state and federal court, including claims involving breach of contract, business torts, state and federal statutory violations, property damage, and civil rights under 42 U.S.C. § 1983. He also has experience with administrative litigation before D.C. land use bodies and with advising businesses and individuals facing threatened claims and other pre-suit disputes. Prior to joining the Land Use & Zoning Practice, Zak worked on high-stakes class actions and data privacy matters, including litigation under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) and data breach claims.
Zak earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a reactions editor of the Georgetown Journal of Law & Modern Critical Race Perspectives. He also interned as an SEC Scholar Legal Intern in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Division of Enforcement and was a summer associate with the firm in 2022 and 2023.
Before attending law school, Zak served in the U.S. Army with the 2nd Brigade Armor Combat Team, 1st Armor Division, as a medical laboratory sergeant and area support squad leader. He was stationed in Missouri, Washington, and Texas.
Zak earned his B.A. from the University of South Florida, where he studied political science and economics.
