San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf Fire

May 27, 2020

On May 23, 2020, a massive fire erupted on Pier 45 on Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, California. The fire quickly tore through a warehouse near the end of the concrete pier, causing its walls to collapse and firefighters to take a defensive stance to prevent further damage. More than 130 firefighters fought the flames. Extensive damage resulted both to the warehouse and to numerous tenants, including fishing equipment used by San Francisco’s Dungeness crab fleet. Firefighters were able to save a historical naval ship docked along the pier, but there are significant reports of smoke, fire, and water damage to other businesses on the pier. Early reports indicate that the fire originated inside of the warehouse, but the official investigation is still pending, and the scene has not been released to private investigators.
