Jennifer Urban, of the firm's Transportation and Trade Group, and George Bibikos, of the firm's Utility, Environmental & Energy Group, will present a webinar titled, "Drones in the Shale Patch and Water World: A Primer for Energy Companies, Water Systems, and their Operations and Legal Departments," on September 19.  The webinar will provide guidance and insight into how oil and gas companies, petroleum refiners, energy producers, suppliers and distributors, manufacturers, energy-related technology companies, pipeline entities, water systems, and others involved in the energy and water industries can utilize drones/unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in everyday operations while complying with federal, state, and local laws.

The presenters will discuss:

  • Issues oil and gas companies and water systems should consider before commencing drone use
  • Scope of permitted drone operations (FAA Part 107)
  • Ways energy and water entities may want to use drones that fall outside the scope of Part 107 and require a special exemption or waiver
  • Steps for energy and water personnel to earn a Remote Pilot Airman Certificate
  • Current proposed UAS legislation potentially impacting the energy sector
  • State and local drone laws in key energy states (PA, TX, LA, MS, ND, WY, AK, CA, & MT)
  • Reasons to consider using anti-drone technology to protect security sensitive infrastructure
