In 2014, an estimated 8,470 restaurant structure fires were responsible for $140 million in property loss. Approximately 61 percent of restaurant structure fires were caused by cooking equipment. Cooking materials (grease, oil) were the most frequent items first ignited. This webinar will address the subrogation and recovery opportunities presented when restaurant fire suppression systems and cooking ventilation systems fail to contain and suppress commercial kitchen fires and where instead a fire originating on a cooking line evolves into a major conflagration that causes substantial loss to the restaurant building, business property, and significant business interruption costs. We will address theories of liability arising out of the spread of a fire that otherwise should have been contained and suppressed by a restaurant’s fire suppression system that can be asserted against restaurant fire suppression system contractors who design, install, service, and maintain restaurant fire suppression systems; against designers and installers of commercial cooking equipment and vent systems; and against restaurant hood and duct cleaners who design, install, service, clean, and maintain restaurant hood and duct exhaust systems.
