With the upcoming elections, politics is fast becoming an everyday topic of conversation in the office. Just as employers have the right to ensure that the workplace is safe and productive, employees similarly have certain rights that need to be appropriately balanced. "Many states have some form of a ‘legal activities law,’" said Michael, "which prohibits employers from taking adverse action against an employee because he or she engages in certain types of political-related activities off premises and outside of working time."
