Experts say there is a growing perception that consumer protection interests, particularly in the financial sector, are going to be handled to a greater extent at the state level if the administration moves forward with its stated intention to soften regulations established by the Dodd-Frank Act or to alter or dissolve the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. “For the next four years, if not longer, you’re seeing a different philosophy with respect to federal enforcement,” Bernie said. “So if there’s less federal enforcement, state AGs may feel they need to be doing more in those areas.”
