If they have a high number of public-facing employees, for example at a grocery store, they might want to get out ahead of the variant and be "more aggressive" with mask and vaccine requirements, he said. But given the competitive labor market, in a situation where an employer has a bare-bones staff in a region ambivalent or hostile to public health requirements, they might need to tread more carefully, he added.
