Daniel Johns authored an article about the rise in union organizing and how employers can handle it. Dan discussed that unions filed 2,510 representation petitions in 2022 which is a 53% increase from 2021. There was also an increase in unfair labor practice charge filings at a total of 17,988 filings which is the largest increase for the NLRB since the 1950s. Dan's first recommendation for employers in how to handle this is to review any handbook provisions or employment policies relevant to union organizing and stay abreast of legal changes. Along with engaging with employees at every possible time and make sure that employees feel like they have an avenue to raise and discuss concerns in the workplace. Dan states that employers should recognize the new landscape for union organizing.
