Tom advises sponsors, operating companies, and investors across the capital stack on a broad spectrum of real estate transactions. He routinely handles complex joint ventures and real estate private equity investments, ground leases, mortgage and mezzanine financings, sale-leasebacks and other net lease transactions, and acquisitions and dispositions.
With over a decade of experience at Am Law Top 10 law firms and having served as in-house general counsel for a New York real estate investment and development company, Tom possesses a deep understanding of both the legal and business aspects of real estate development and investment. He played a key role in some of New York City's most significant redevelopment projects, including the World Trade Center and the Moynihan Train Hall.
Tom regularly guides clients on transactions ranging in value from tens of millions to billions of dollars, domestically and cross-border, involving health care, industrial, manufacturing, retail, and office asset classes. He has significant experience working with health care organizations to execute real estate transactions, including hospitals, senior living, and life sciences facilities. Tom also maintains an active sale-leaseback practice and has worked with many leading sale-leaseback providers, enabling him to provide valuable insights on market practices and transaction structure.
Tom has provided pro bono representation for several nonprofit organizations, including most recently The IDEAL School of Manhattan, a school dedicated to providing inclusive education to children in New York City, on its recent lease transaction to move the school from the Upper West Side of Manhattan to the financial district.
Tom earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and his B.A. in economics, magna cum laude, from Bucknell University.
