Courtney is a seasoned employment litigator who counsels employers on a broad range of labor and employment matters, including wage and hour litigation, workplace investigations, government audits, regulatory compliance, and workplace policies. She represents clients across a variety of industries, including telecommunications, hospitality, construction, energy, food services, and health care, helping them navigate complex employment disputes while mitigating risk and achieving practical business objectives. Drawing on more than 15 years of experience in both private practice and federal government service, Courtney develops litigation and compliance strategies tailored to her clients' operational needs.
Courtney defends employers in wage and hour matters, including individual and collective actions brought under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), as well as government investigations and enforcement proceedings. She has secured favorable outcomes at every stage of litigation, including prevailing on summary judgment for a hospitality client, obtaining dismissals of employment-related claims, and successfully resolving complex collective actions through mediation. She also advises employers during investigations conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor and has helped clients obtain findings of no violations following agency audits and reviews.
Before entering private practice, Courtney served for more than a decade with the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of the Solicitor, ultimately as a Senior Trial Attorney. In that role, she led all phases of litigation in federal district courts and administrative tribunals on behalf of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and Wage and Hour Division. She handled complex enforcement actions involving wage and hour compliance, workplace safety, retaliation claims, and employment-based visa programs, while also advising agency personnel on investigative and litigation strategy.
Courtney earned her J.D., Order of the Coif, from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she served as a comment staff writer for the McGeorge Law Review. She received her B.A., cum laude, in journalism from Colorado State University and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
