Cozen O’Connor Attorney Jeff Pasek Edits Human Resources Text

Cozen O'Connor member Jeffrey I. Pasek has edited the 2009 edition of the Pennsylvania Human Resources Manual, published by the American Chamber of Commerce Resources in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry. This edition contains 24 chapters, all written by attorneys at Cozen O'Connor, that reflect the current state and federal employment laws, covering hiring, wages, discrimination, performance evaluations, employee discipline, termination, privacy and high technology in the workplace, workers’ compensation, and drugs and alcohol in the workplace, among other topics.

A member in the Philadelphia office and past chair of the labor and employment practice group, Pasek represents management in all facets of labor and employment law, He concentrates in employment-related litigation with particular emphasis in the areas of employment discrimination and non-competition agreements. Pasek has extensive experience in advising clients on how to structure decisions to avoid litigation and to better position themselves if claims are made, representing management in all facets of labor and employment law. He has tried cases and argued appeals in the federal courts throughout the United States, including before the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, Pasek co-chairs the executive services practice group at Cozen O'Connor, which handles the special legal issues surrounding the recruitment, employment and transition of senior executives in publicly and privately held companies. Besides negotiating employment and separation agreements, he also oversees internal investigations involving Sarbanes-Oxley, whistleblower and harassment allegations.

Regularly called upon as a course planner and speaker in continuing legal education programs, Pasek has served as a speaker on labor and employment law and on legal ethics for such groups as the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the American Arbitration Association, the University of Pennsylvania Law School Center of Professionalism, and the American Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section. On behalf of the ABA Labor and Employment Section Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity Law, Pasek served as regional liaison and helped train lawyers and investigators from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Pasek is active in the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, where he serves as a member of the executive committee of the board of directors, and chairman of the industrial relations committee, government affairs committee, and candidate selection committee of the chamber's PAC. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America and was named a Pennsylvania "Super Lawyer" by his peers, appearing in Philadelphia magazine and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.

Pasek is the author of numerous articles, including "Sexual Harassment under American Law", published in 2008 in the Journal of the Chinese Women's University. His work has been featured in The Corporate Counselor, HR Magazine, Human Resource Professional, Philadelphia Construction News, Pennsylvania Bar Quarterly, and the Human Resources Commentator, and he also participated in the Lawyer to Lawyer video course.  From 1998-2002, he co-edited a chapter on Religious Discrimination in Lindholm & Grossman, Employment Discrimination Law published by the Bureau of National Affairs. Pasek also authored chapters on Employment Law and Employment Practices Liability Insurance in @Risk Version 2.0 – The definitive guide to legal issues of insurance and reinsurance of Internet and e-commerce and cyber perils, R. Hammesfahr, editor, Reactions Publishing Group Ltd., London.

A resident of Ardmore, Pasek is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh (B.A., magna cum laude, 1973) and the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D., 1976). He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
