CHICAGO, August 1, 2015 – Joe Tilson, co-chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Labor & Employment Department, has been elected vice-chair of the American Bar Association’s Section on Labor and Employment Law – one of the ABA’s largest and most active sections. Tilson’s new position was announced today at the ABA’s annual meeting in Chicago, and is effective immediately.
He is now on the path to become the section chair in three years: during 2015-16 and 2016-17, Tilson will serve as vice-chair, then rise to chair-elect in 2017-18 and become chair of the section in 2018-19. He will continue to serve on the ABA’s council, the governing body of the ABA’s Labor and Employment Section.
In addition to co-chairing Cozen O’Connor’s Labor & Employment Department, Tilson also serves as one of the co-managing partner of the firm’s Chicago office. His practice entails representing employers in large scale employment litigation and labor arbitrations.
In the past 35 years, Tilson has tried more than 150 jury and non-jury cases before the full range of courts, administrative agencies and labor arbitrators. His clients include a number of the country’s largest public and private employers and Illinois’s most prestigious universities, whom he represents in both traditional labor law matters and employment litigation. Tilson is nationally known for his knowledge and success in handling large wage and hour class action cases and for his experience in collective bargaining involving large and complex bargaining units.
He has been recognized as one of the top labor and employment lawyers in the nation, including being named as the 2014 Chicago Employment Law “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers (for the second time in the last four years), one of “Nation’s Most Powerful Employment Lawyers” by Human Resource Executive Magazine/LawDragon, and he has consistently achieved a Tier 1 Labor and Employment Ranking from Chambers USA.
