Banks Gear Up for Battle Over Capital Rules, Swipe Fees in 2024

Brett Watson was quoted in a Bloomberg Law article discussing the 2024 banking regulatory agenda, which will likely face an uphill climb. “I’m sure a lot of this will probably get litigated,” said Brett.  He also discussed the Fed’s proposal to decrease the interchange fee banks can charge on debit card transactions. According to Brett, comments are due on February 12, but a final rule is likely to look very similar to the proposal. “I’m sure the debit interchange issue is as close to a done deal as you can get,” said Brett.
