Thursday, June 9, 2016

PHILADELPHIA, June 9, 2016 Chambers Global has recognized Cozen O’ Connor attorneys Joseph Tilson and Susan Eisenberg as two worldwide leaders in labor and employment law, and Paul Dowsey as a leader in insurance: contentious claims. Both Tilson and Eisenberg are also ranked in the Chambers USA Guide and Dowsey is ranked in Chambers UK

The annual Chambers Global rankings are based on client and peer references from around the world as well as information gathered from Chambers’ own independent research. Attorneys are ranked in their practice areas on the basis of their legal knowledge and experience, their ability, their effectiveness, and their client service.

Tilson, chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Labor & Employment Department, has also been ranked in the Chambers USA guide since 2004. He is highlighted in the rankings as an attorney with “… a long-established practice that has brought him before state and federal courts, alongside administrative judges and arbitrators [and] is described by various peers as "a great lawyer" known throughout the United States for his labor and employment prowess.” Earlier this year, Tilson was also recognized by Chambers Global as a Labor & Employment “Leader in the Field”.

Eisenberg, a member in the firm’s Miami office, has also been ranked in the Chambers USA since 2004. She is similarly highlighted in the rankings as “first-rate” and “… is highly esteemed for her extensive experience handling wage and hour, non-compete and discrimination concerns.” She is nationally known for her experience in wage and hour class action cases. In addition, Eisenberg is board certified by The Florida Bar in Labor and Employment, a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, and is a certified mediator and arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association.

Dowsey, a member of the firm's Insurance Department and office managing partner of the firm's London office, was recognized by clients for his cross-border experience, particularly his work in Chilean matters. He has direct and facultative international business with emphasis on mining, power generation, construction, engineering, industrial process, oil and gas, as well as considerable claims experience in South America, Europe, Africa and the Far East.

Cozen O’Connor President & CEO Michael J. Heller said of the accolades, “We are very proud to be recognized by Chambers Global, and by extension, our clients. Joe, Susan and Paul exemplify our increasing global reach and international success.”

In addition to serving as chair of Cozen O’Connor’s Labor & Employment Department, Tilson is also one of the co-managing partners of the firm’s Chicago office. His practice entails representing employers in large scale employment litigation and labor arbitrations. In the past 30 years, Tilson has tried more than 150 jury and non-jury cases before the full range of courts, administrative agencies and labor arbitrators. He is nationally known for his knowledge and success in handling large wage and hour class action cases, but he also has vast experience in collective bargaining involving large, complex bargaining units.

Tilson is a fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers, and is the American Bar Association’s Labor & Employment Section vice-chair. He also serves on the ABA’s Council, the governing body of the ABA’s Labor and Employment Law Section. Tilson has been recognized as one of the top labor and employment lawyers in the nation, including being named the Chicago Employment Law “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers (in 2014 and 2011), and “Client Choice” winner by the International Law Office (ILO) and Lexology (in 2014 and 2015). Tilson has also been named to the SuperLawyers list of the “Top 100 Illinois Super Lawyers” for the fifth consecutive year.

For more than 25 years, Eisenberg has focused on representing management in labor and employment matters and is known nationally for her experience with wage and hour issues. She represents employers in state and federal courts and has extensive trial experience.  Accommodating the needs of domestic clients as well as those in Latin America, Eisenberg counsels her clients in all aspects of employment law, including conducting wage and hour audits and training sessions for managers and staff.

Earlier in 2016, Eisenberg was recognized by Best Lawyers in America as “Lawyer of the Year" for Employment Law - Management in Miami, having been recognized as a Best Lawyer in each of the past 10 years. She has been named to the SuperLawyers list of “Top 50 Women Lawyers in Florida” in six of the past eight years and was named one of the “Top 100 Lawyers” in Florida in 2013. She has been consistently recognized as one of Florida Trends Legal Elite and was named as a “Top 20 Women in Law” by the Daily Business Review in 2014.

Dowsey, who co-chairs Cozen O'Connor's Reinsurance Practice, joined the firm in 2013. He has practiced insurance law for more than 20 years and worked on a Lloyd's syndicate for three years. He has considerable experience in treaty reinsurance disputes and has been involved in complex international treaty disputes in London, Bermuda, the United States and Australia, as well as managing treaty audits and inspections. He has been ranked by Chambers UK for the past two years and is also ranked by the Legal 500.
