Cozen O’Connor Adds Five More Litigators to its Global Insurance Department

Monday, February 2, 2026

PHILADELPHIA – February 2, 2026, Am Law 100 firm Cozen O’Connor today welcomed five prominent litigators from Faegre Drinker to its fast-growing Global Insurance Department. Susan E. Egeland, Frederick P. Marczyk, Matt Sapp, Dazia Anderson, and Madeline Boche bring substantial experience defending clients embroiled in what are often major, corporate-level insurance coverage disputes. Egeland, Sapp, Anderson, and Boche will join Cozen O’Connor’s office in Dallas, while Marczyk will be based in Philadelphia.

“With today’s insurers facing an ever-increasing variety of disruptions and uncertainties — from natural disasters to AI and other groundbreaking technological developments — underwriters and claims handlers not only need but demand counsel with deep industry knowledge and allegiance,” said Michael J. Heller, Cozen O’Connor’s Chairman and CEO. “With decades of high-level litigation experience behind them, Susan and her team are perfectly suited to help insurers and other clients face these challenges head on and both protect and enhance their operations. As the newest members of arguably the most sophisticated insurance law department of any firm in the United States, I’m thrilled to welcome them to the fold.”

Recognized by Chambers USA, Egeland joins the Dallas office as a shareholder. She focuses her practice on defending clients engaged in product liability, insurance, commercial, and employment disputes, handling each case according to its unique challenges. Her corporate experience in product liability and business litigation — as well as large commercial cases, toxic tort litigation, sexual abuse, and aviation and construction disputes — spans numerous industries, including insurance, product manufacturing, health care and education.

“Few industries are as heavily regulated as insurance. This team brings us decades of experience providing practical strategic advice on regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and major business transactions,” said Joseph A. Ziemianski, co-chair of the Global Insurance Department. “I’m pleased to welcome them to our group, and I’m very much looking forward to working with them.”

Sapp, who joins the Dallas office as a member, regularly advises and represents clients with civil disputes in state, federal, and appellate courts from coast to coast. Recognized by Best Lawyers® “Ones to Watch,” Appellate Practice, in 2024 and 2025, he regularly handles commercial disputes, product liability, premises liability, subrogation, copyright and patent infringement, legal malpractice, employment disputes, and mass torts. His track record includes handling appeals in Texas, California, Georgia, and Arkansas, as well as in the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Fifth, and Eleventh Circuits.

Marczyk joins the Philadelphia office as a member and handles commercial, class action, and product liability disputes involving clients in the insurance, technology, consumer products, and entertainment industries. He regularly counsels insurers and litigates coverage and extracontractual liability disputes relating to various types of primary, umbrella, and excess liability policies. He brings to the firm a strong background litigating disputes in trial, appellate, and bankruptcy courts throughout the country.

“Speaking for the five of us, I can say we’re all very excited to be joining a firm that’s focused on and clearly dedicated to providing the comprehensive legal counsel today’s global insurance industry requires,” Egeland said. “The firm’s entrepreneurial spirit, combined with its vast legal resources, will serve our clients very well.”

Anderson focuses her practice on insurance coverage matters, advising insurance companies and other industry stakeholders in support of their business objectives. She joins the firm as an associate and earned her J.D., with honors, from Emory University School of Law in 2025, where she concentrated her studies on Civil Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Boche joins the firm as an associate and is experienced counseling clients on insurance coverage matters. She earned her J.D. in 2024 from the SMU Dedman School of Law, where she served for two years as an articles editor for the International Law Review Association.
